Stainless Steel

Many hours and attempts were dedicated to the selection of materials to ensure high quality and durability.

The foundation for the levitation effect is created by various designs of polished stainless steel columns. This alloy is highly resistant and is commonly used in machinery and tool manufacturing – it doesn’t oxidize. The fittings where the magnets are attached, as well as the chains, are also made from this high-quality material.

Magnets

Magnets are the core of the sculptures. Their never-ending attraction to each other is what makes them fascinating – as if trapped in time. Yet, they are also so ephemeral that the effect can be easily disrupted by pulling them apart.

But don’t be deceived – Neodymium magnets are used. Made from a special material blend, often referred to colloquially as supermagnets for a good reason – even small ones can lift many times their own weight.

This makes the processing extremely demanding, but it also makes the sculptures equally remarkable.

Wood

The strong magnetic attraction poses unique challenges when choosing wood. The choice fell on robust, high-quality oak wood, as only it can withstand the strong force of the magnets and allow long-lasting enjoyment of the levitation effect. A luxurious, glossy finish is achieved by applying a protective layer of epoxy resin. This is also used on the underside of the sculpture, where two elongated holes are filled with epoxy resin to prevent wood warping. This detail is concealed by a precise felt layer – providing gentle and non-slip contact with any surface.

Due to the extreme strength of the magnets, the following precautions are essential:

Avoid magnetic-sensitive items, such as credit cards, mechanical watches, or storage media, within the immediate vicinity (50mm) of the magnet.
Do not place the magnets near the nose or ear area. Even small Neodymium magnets can cause bruising and blood blisters.
Keep the magnets away from pacemakers. Close proximity (<1cm) can alter their operation and potentially harm the user's health.
Swallowing can lead to life-threatening injuries due to the magnets attracting through the intestinal wall. Therefore, individuals under 16 years of age should not use the magnets.
